Pilot Awards Program
The DC CFAR Pilot Awards Program aims to provide pilot funds on a competitive basis to HIV/AIDS investigators to assist them in the development of their NIH-funded research careers. Please see the various pilot award programs the DC CFAR offers below:
- The Traditional Pilot Awards Program is the signature activity of the DC CFAR and provides up to $75,000 in pilot research funds to early stage and new HIV/AIDS investigators to collect preliminary data that will help them compete for NIH funding in HIV/AIDS as Principal Investigators. There are typically two rounds of these awards each year in the fall and spring semesters.
- The Transitioning Investigator Awards Program provides up to $100,000 in pilot funding for NIH-funded investigators in non-HIV fields who have not received an NIH award in HIV/AIDS. Investigators who are interested in applying their scientific expertise to the HIV/AIDS field are encouraged to apply. The DC CFAR has conducted two cycles of Transitioning Investigator Awards and will launch a third cycle when sufficient funds become available.
- The Academic-Community Partnership Pilot Awards Program provides up to $50,000 in pilot funds to Co-Principal Investigator teams consisting of one early stage or new HIV/AIDS academic investigator and one community-based investigator to collect preliminary data that will lead to NIH funding in HIV/AIDS. The DC CFAR has conducted two cycles of Academic-Community Partnership Pilot Awards and is planning to launch a third cycle when sufficient funds become available.
