Dr. Eliezer Masliah
On September 10th, the DC CFAR Developmental Core and Aging & Comorbidities Scientific Working Group (SWG), hosted a joint hybrid "My Path to Independence in HIV Research," Seminar ft. Dr. Eliezer Masliah, Director of the Division of Neuroscience, at the National Institutes of Aging (NIA). Dr. Masliah's presentation was entitled "NeuroHIV, Aging and Alzheimer’s Disease - A Perspective from NIA."
Dr. Anthony Fauci
On March 21, 2024, the DC CFAR Developmental Core hosted the "My Path to Independence in HIV Research" lecture series featuring Dr. Anthony Fauci. Dr. Fauci is a Distinguished University Professor in the Division of Infectious Diseases at Georgetown University School of Medicine and former Director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases at the National Institutes of Health (NIH). Dr. Fauci shared his journey in HIV research and discussed his perspective on pursuing a career in HIV-related science.
Dr. Imtiaz Khan
On January 16, 2024, the DC CFAR Developmental Core held another installment of the virtual lecture series entitled "My Path to Independence in HIV Research." The lecture featured Dr. Imtiaz Khan, Professor of Microbiology, Immunology, and Tropical Medicine at George Washington, who shared his journey to career and research independence.
Dr. Jonathon Rendina
On May 31, 2023, the Developmental Core hosted the DC CFAR Lecture Series, My Path to Independence in HIV Research. The event featured Dr. Jonathon Rendina, Senior Director of Research at Whitman-Walker, Associate Research Professor in the Department of Epidemiology at George Washington University, and EC Member of the DC CFAR. Dr. Rendina shared his journey to in(ter)dependence in HIV research, focusing on the mentors who helped him along the way, and the opportunities he took to shape his career.
Dr. Lisa Bowleg
On October 5, 2022, the Developmental Core hosted the DC CFAR Lecture Series, My Path to Independence in HIV Research. The event featured Dr. Lisa Bowleg, Professor of Applied Social Psychology at George Washington University and Co-Director of the DC CFAR Social and Behavioral Sciences Core. Dr. Bowleg shared her journey in HIV research, the mentors who helped her along the way, and the obstacles that shaped her path to independence.

Dr. Robert C. Gallo
On April 27, 2022, the Developmental Core hosted an inaugural event for the new DC CFAR Lecture Series titled, My Path to Independence in HIV Research. The event featured Professor of Medicine and Director of the Institute of Human Virology at the University of Maryland School of Medicine, Dr. Robert C. Gallo. Dr. Gallo shared his journey in HIV research and the people, obstacles, and resources that helped shape and direct his path to success.
