Wednesday Conversations

The Wednesday Conversations with the CPS Core is a new exciting opportunity for DC CFAR investigators to learn about the different resources available to help support their research and network with fellow HIV investigators. The CPS Core invites members to participate in these sessions every fourth Wednesday of the month from 5:00-6:00 pm. Seminars prior to November 2022 can be found in the Archive section.

April 2024

On April 11, 2024, the DC CFAR Clinical and Population Sciences (CPS) Core and Aging and Comorbidities SIG held a virtual seminar entitled, “Models of Care – Successes/Challenges for Academic and Community Partners." The event featured presentations from the following experts in the field:

  • Dr. Genie Siegler, MD, Mason Adams Professor of Geriatric Medicine and Professor of Clinical Medicine at Weill Cornell Medicine
  • Dr. Christina Prather, MD, FACP, Director of Geriatrics and Palliative Medicine at George Washington Medical Faculty Associates and Associate Professor of Geriatrics and Palliative Medicine at The George Washington University School of Medicine & Health Sciences.
  • Dr. Susan Shepard, DHA, MURP, Executive Director of TERRIFIC, Inc. (Temporary Emergency Residential Resource Institute for Families in Crisis) and DC CFAR CPC Member.

January 2024

On January 24, 2024, the DC CFAR Clinical and Population Sciences Core held a virtual seminar featuring Dr. Katharine Bar, Associate Professor of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania and Director of the Penn Center for AIDS Research Virus and Reservoirs Core. Dr. Bar’s talk was entitled, “The impact of acute and early ART initiation on autologous neutralizing antibody responses to HIV-1.”

November 2023

The DC CFAR CPS Core Conversation on November 29, 2023 was entitled ID Week HIV Snapshot. The event featured presentations from Dr. Daniel Seeger and Dr. Stephen Stone, infectious diseases fellows at the George Washington School of Medicine and Health Sciences. The speakers provided highlights from IDWeek 2023 and an overview of HIV topics covered.

September 2023

The DC CFAR Clinical and Population Sciences (CPS) Core met on September 27 for a seminar featuring Dr. Qing Pan, CPS Core Co-Director and Professor of Biostatistics and Bioinformatics at George Washington University. Dr. Pan's presentation was focused on “Standardization of Continuous and Categorical Covariates in Sparse Penalized Regressions & Community Detection with Heterogeneous Block Covariance Model.”

June 2023

This seminar featured presentations from HIV Cure SWG Lead Dr. Rebecca Lynch, co-Lead Dr. Alberto Bosque, and member Dr. Natalia Soriano-Sarabia. Their presentation titled "HIV Cure Basic Science at the DC CFAR: Fostering Collaborations for Translational Research" focused on their current HIV cure research and potential areas of collaboration.

May 2023

This seminar featured a presentation from Dr. Debra Benator, Professor of Medicine at George Washington University and Director of the HIV-Infectious Diseases Clinic Education at the DC Veterans Affairs Medical Center, entitled "DC Cohort: Improvements over time and inequities in STI frequency and potential for HIV transmission."

April 2023

This seminar featured a presentation from Dr. Todd Brown, Professor of Medicine at Johns Hopkins University, on "Understanding Fat Changes in People Living with HIV."

March 2023

This seminar featured a presentation from Dr. Rachel Denyer on "Understanding hepatitis B viremia and reactivation in persons with HIV in the DC Cohort: challenges and opportunities".

November 2022

This seminar featured presentations from CPS Core Director Dr. Seble Kassaye, CPS Core Associate Director Dr. Marc Siegel, and DC CFAR Investigator Dr. Blair Spence on highlights from IDWeek 2022 and an overview of HIV topics covered.
