Developmental Funding Opportunities
Core Services Grants
Core Service grants (up to $2,500) are available to DC CFAR investigators to access services offered by the Scientific Cores to generate preliminary findings that may strengthen future applications to the DC CFAR Pilot Awards Program or NIH directly. These grants cover the costs associated with the use of DC CFAR core services. Types of services that are eligible to be covered through this mechanism include but are not limited to laboratory services and specimen acquisition.
Publication and Poster Printing Grants
Publication and poster printing grants (up to $2,500) are available for previous DC CFAR Pilot Awards and NIH CFAR Administrative Supplements recipients to facilitate the publishing of manuscripts associated with the study results of their DC CFAR project.
Scientific Travel Grants
Travel grants are available (up to $2,500) to previous DC CFAR Pilot Awards and NIH CFAR Administrative Supplements recipients to travel to national scientific conferences to present the study results associated with their DC CFAR project.
Pilot Supplement Awards
Current DC CFAR investigators with prior pilot awards (not active within the last 3 years) will be able to apply for a Supplement (up to $25,000) to support data collection for a revised resubmission of a previously scored and discussed NIH application.
Eligibility
These grants are available to full investigative members of the DC CFAR. The supplement, publication, poster printing, and travel grants are specifically intended for DC CFAR Pilot Awards and NIH CFAR Administrative Supplements recipients who do not currently have an active award.
Established investigators in HIV/AIDS, with a history of independent research programs (R01-level funding), are not eligible to apply through this program and instead are encouraged to apply directly to the NIH for funding. The DC CFAR is available to provide consultation and services in support of your application.
Application Process
Interested applicants are encouraged to apply for these grant programs using the forms below. Applications will be reviewed by the Developmental Core to assess eligibility and appropriateness. Please note that applications for the core services grant and supplement awards will undergo a review process in which two non-conflicted DC CFAR members with relevant scientific expertise will assess the scientific merit of the application and provide an overall impact score based on a modified version of the NIH grant application scoring system. The scores will then be reviewed by the Developmental Core for final funding decisions.
Award Guidelines
- If applicable, Institutional regulatory approvals (e.g., IRB, IACUC, etc.) must be submitted prior to the release of funds.
- The DC CFAR should be acknowledged in all publications resulting from provided funding.
- Expenses must adhere to NIH and DC CFAR guidelines on allowable expenditures.
- Additional information will be provided to award recipients.
