DC CFAR and DC Cohort Investigators Drs. Hana Akselrod (GW), Debra Benator (VAMC), Amanda Castel (GW), Rupali Doshi (GW), Matt Levy (GW), Anne Monroe (GW), David Parenti (GW) and Leah Squires (VAMC) (from L to R) along with colleagues from the DC Cohort published an article in Sexually Transmitted Infections in January 2020 entitled "Sexually transmitted infections in persons living with HIV infection and estimated HIV transmission risk: trends over time from the DC Cohort."

The study examines the rates of incident sexually transmitted infections (STIs) among people living with HIV (PLWH) participating in the DC Cohort and demonstrated that the incidence of chlamydia, syphilis, and gonorrhea increased from 2012 to 2016. The authors highlight the importance of addressing these findings with STI prevention programs. Additionally, the study evaluated trends in viral load of participants with STIs to describe the estimated HIV transmission risk among participants. Click here to read the full article.
