Castel
The DC CFAR is pleased to announce that Dr. Amanda Castel is joining the Clinical and Population Sciences (CPS) Core as a Co-Director in January 2017.  The CPS Core is led by Director Dr. Princy Kumar and Co-Directors Drs. Manya Magnus and Sam Simmens.

Dr. Castel will focus on developing synergies between the DC CFAR and the DC Cohort, for which she serves as Principal Investigator.  Specifically, she will work with DC CFAR investigators to establish collaborations with DC Cohort investigators to conduct analyses of the DC Cohort database, and to develop NIH grant submissions based on the DC Cohort platform.  The DC Cohort is an NIH-funded public health research database which captures data (monthly) from electronic medical records for more than 8,000 consenting HIV-infected patients at 14 HIV care sites in the District of Columbia. The CPS Core will be hosting an evening event on February 7, 2017, during which Dr. Castel will be presenting the DC Cohort to the DC CFAR membership - further information will be provided in the weeks ahead.

Dr. Castel is an Associate Professor in the Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics at the Milken Institute School of Public Health at George Washington University.  She is a nationally recognized expert in HIV surveillance and epidemiology, a practicing HIV pediatrician, and a member of the NIH Division of AIDS Research Advisory Committee (ARAC).

Please join us in welcoming Dr. Castel to the DC CFAR leadership team!
