DC CFAR Basic Sciences Core Director, Dr. Sergei Nekhai, has been named PI for the Center For Hemoglobin Research in Minorities (CHaRM) program at Howard University. CHaRM is an NIH-funded Clinical Research Center (P50) supported by the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI). The CHaRM program aims to establish a center of excellence for the study of hemoglobinopathies, iron metabolism and oxygen sensing. The program is dedicated to educating and training minority students and fellows by providing research and laboratory experience. CHaRM works in collaboration with the Howard University Center for Sickle Cell Disease.
