- It is a placebo-controlled, randomized trial of buprenorphine (BUP, brand name Suboxone) treatment for HIV-infected, community-supervised defendants or offenders (Pre-Trial Services, probation, or Re-entry and Sanction Center) meeting DSM-IV criteria for opioid dependence. The purpose of this study is to determine whether treatment with BUP will help to reduce opioid dependence in HIV+ individuals in the criminal justice system and improve their health outcomes with regard to substance dependence and HIV, as well as reduce their criminal justice involvement.
