DC CFAR Basic Sciences Core Director, Dr. Sergei Nekhai (HU), along DC CFAR Investigators Drs. Xionghao Lin (HU), Namita Kumari (HU), Tatiana Ammosova (HU) and Aykut Uren (GU), published an article in Frontiers in Microbiology September 2019 entitled "Targeting the Non-catalytic RVxF Site of Protein Phosphatase-1 With Small Molecules for Ebola Virus Inhibition".
The study developed a novel mass spectrometry-based approach to analyze the binding of small molecule compound 1E7-07 to host protein phosphatase 1 (PP1) and show that this compound efficiently inhibits Ebola virus (EBOV) replication. Further evaluation of their findings may have implications for future anti-filoviral therapy.
