Drs. Ghosh and Goldstein

DC CFAR investigators Dr. Mimi Ghosh (PI, GW) and Dr. Deborah Goldstein (Co-I, WWH) were recently awarded an R21 from the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) entitled "Systemic and Mucosal Immune Dysregulation and HIV Risk in Transgender Females".

This study will investigate the impact of both short-term and long-term use of synthetic estrogen exposure in transgender females. The overall objective is to identify key immune pathways, both systemic and mucosal, that may be dysregulated in this population, in a manner that can enhance their risk of HIV acquisition.
