DC CFAR investigators Drs. Rohan Fernandes (GW), C.Russell Cruz (Children's) and DC CFAR Basic Science Associate Core Director Dr. Alberto Bosque (GW) published an article in Nano Research January 2020 entitled "PLGA nanodepots co-encapsulating prostratin and anti-CD25 enhance primary natural killer cell antiviral and antitumor function".

The authors synthesized poly(lactic-co-glycolic acid) nanodepots that packaged both prostratin, a latency-reversing agent, and anti-CD25, and investigated the effect of the nanodepots on natural killer cell antiviral and antitumor function. Results from this study demonstrated that the multifunctional nanodepot approach was effective in significantly improving the ability of NK cells to function as antiviral or antitumor agents, and has direct implications for HIV cure research.
