DC CFAR Investigator Dr. Michael Bukrinsky (GW) and colleagues from the Baker Heart and Diabetes Institute in Melbourne, Australia published an article in AIDS January 2020 entitled "Comorbidities of HIV infection role of Nef-induced impairment of cholesterol metabolism and lipid raft functionality".

This article reviews evidence for the innovative idea that the impairment of cellular cholesterol metabolism may be a key factor driving the pathogenesis of different HIV-associated comorbidities. Investigators also discuss potential therapeutic approaches targeting this new mechanism.
