DC CFAR SBS Core Co-Director, Kim Blankenship, PhD, Named Associate Dean for Research in the College of Arts and Sciences at American University

DC CFAR Social and Behavioral Sciences Core co-director, Kim Blankenship, PhDhas been appointed Associate Dean for Research in the College of Arts and Sciences at American University (AU). Dr. Blankenship is an internationally renowned sociologist who studies the social determinants of health, including race, class, and gender inequality, in order to inform new interventions to address chronic health disparities. She joined American University as professor of sociology in 2010, and from 2010 to 2016, served both as chair of the Department of Sociology and as the founding director of the Center on Health, Risk and Society. Dr. Blankenship's currently funded research includes a mixed methods longitudinal study of the intersecting impacts of mass incarceration, housing instability, and housing policy on HIV related risk and race inequities in HIV/AIDS (NIMH), and research (based at Temple University) on legal levers for equity in housing.  As Associate Dean for Research, Kim will work with College to further expand AU's scientific research and teaching capabilities and to provide the highest level of research experience to AU faculty and students alike.
