Current HIV/AIDS Research Activities:

  • My recent projects include two trials of a community-level intervention for primary and secondary prevention of HIV/AIDS among young African American gay and bisexual men.
  • I am also working to develop and test interventions for parents of lesbian, gay, and bisexual (LGB) youth to improve parents' responses to their children's sexual orientation and thereby facilitate child health ( We are currently in the process of adapting our parenting intervention to focus on helping parents of gay and bisexual adolescent boys communicate more effectively with their sons about HIV and sexual health.
  • In addition to these intervention studies, I am interested in how health behavior theories can be improved and adapted to better explain how extra-individual variables (e.g., social oppression) operate to influence HIV-related risk behaviors.
