Carlos Rodriguez-Diaz, PhD, MPHE, MCHES (GW) has received an NIH CFAR Administrative Supplement entitled, “Puerto Rico-DC CFAR government-community-academic partnership (GCAP) for comprehensive HIV prevention and response”. This project will address the “Diagnose”, “Prevent”, and “Respond” pillars of the nationwide Ending the HIV Epidemic (EHE) initiative.

San Juan, Puerto Rico (PR) was identified as one of the demographic and geographic “hotspot” of HIV infection that is the focus of the Ending the HIV Epidemic (EHE) initiative. This project will establish a standing community-government-academic partnership (GCAP), similar to the DC CFAR’s citywide model, to build the infrastructure needed to achieve the goals of the national EHE initiative. Dr. Rodriguez-Diaz and his collaborators from the University of Puerto Rico will develop a multi-sectorial advisory committee composed of community and government stakeholders and academicians to support infrastructure for HIV research and intervention. This project seeks to strengthen the local response to the HIV epidemic by applying national strategies to local activities to: improve linkages to HIV prevention services in PR; build partnerships and collaborations to enhance the local response; and develop future implementation science research projects to close gaps in HIV services in PR and among Latino/Hispanic populations.
