Dr. Sanjay Maggirwar Named as Chair of the GW Department of Microbiology, Immunology and Tropical Medicine

We are pleased to announce that Dr. Sanjay Maggirwar has been named as Chair of the GW Department of Microbiology, Immunology, and Tropical Medicine. Dr. Maggirwar will begin his new position on July 1, 2019, at which time he will join Dr. Sergei Nekhai at Howard University in the leadership of the DC CFAR Basic Sciences Core. Dr. Maggirwar comes to DC from the University of Rochester where he served for many years as Vice Chair of the Department of Microbiology and Immunology and Director of the University of Rochester CFAR Basic Sciences Core. 
 
Dr. Maggiwar's research has focused mainly on long-term survivors of HIV-infection and the inflammatory secondary complications they may experience, particularly the inflammatory mechanisms associated with HIV-1 dementia. His work has resulted in nearly 100 publications in peer-reviewed journals and he has given seminars and presented at scientific conferences and symposia around the world.
