Two New Publications on HIV and the Gut Microbiome from DC CFAR Investigator, Dr. Adeline Koay

DC CFAR Investigator and pilot award recipient, Dr. Adeline Koay (Children's) has recently published two articles highlighting the interactions of the gut microbiome and HIV. The first publication in Digestive Diseases and Sciences February 2020, entitled "HIV, Sexual Orientation, and Gut Microbiome Interactions" was co-authored with Drs. Susan Tuddenham and Cynthia Sears from Johns Hopkins University. The article reviews data on changes in the gut microbiome in HIV. The second publication, co-authored with Dr. Susan Tuddenham and collaborators from John Hopkins University in Clinical Infectious Diseases February 2020 is entitled "The Impact of HIV on Gut Microbiota alpha-Diversity: An Individual-level Meta-analysis". The authors found that HIV status was associated with a decrease in measures of alpha-diversity in women and in men who have sex with women, but not in MSM.
