HIV Nurse Navigation Program Chosen as Meeting HIV/AIDS Prevention Research Synthesis (PRS) Best Practices Criteria

August 26, 2019

We are pleased to announce that Dr. Octaviana Hemmy Asamsama, NurseNavigator Alpha Tessema and DC CFAR investigators Drs. Leah Squires and Debra Benator who reported in the 2017 publication "HIV Nurse Navigation: Charting the Course to Improve Engagement in Care and HIV Virologic Suppression"  which was benefited from data from the DC Cohort, has been chosen as meeting HIV/AIDS Prevention Research Synthesis (PRS) Best Practices Criteria for Evidence-Informed Structural Interventions.

The HIV/AIDS Prevention Research Synthesis (PRS) project at the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) identified the publication to meet the PRS best practices criteria which will be added and highlighted in their Compendium of Evidence-based HIV Behavioral Interventions website as evidence-informed interventions for researchers, policy decision makers, and prevention providers.

The publication explores the effectiveness of an integrated HIV nurse navigation program on patient outcomes. The results suggested that integrating ongoing nurse navigation into primary HIV care could lead to better outcomes including medication adherence and virologic suppression among persons with HIV.
