Fall 2016 Pilot Awards Program RFA

August 18, 2016

The District of Columbia Center for AIDS Research (DC CFAR) is pleased to announce the next cycle of research proposal solicitations through its Pilot Awards Program. This competitive program seeks to provide pilot research funds to HIV/AIDS investigators who demonstrate potential to successfully compete for future federal funding and eventually establish themselves as independent NIH-funded investigators.

Faculty investigators at the six participating DC CFAR institutions (American University, Children's National Medical Center, Georgetown University, the George Washington University, Howard University and the Veterans Affairs Medical Center) who are full members of the DC CFAR are eligible to apply as Principal Investigators (PI) to the Pilot Awards Program.

The Pilot Awards Program funds research projects that focus on HIV/AIDS and related opportunistic illnesses.  The scope of funded projects includes basic, clinical, epidemiologic, social behavioral and prevention HIV/AIDS science.  Applications are particularly encouraged that focus on the NIH high priority HIV/AIDS research areaswhich broadly focus on: reducing HIV/AIDS incidence; the next generation of HIV therapies and implementation research on the HIV continuum of care; cure research; HIV-associated comorbidities, coinfections, and complications; and cross cutting areas in basic research and health disparities.  Multidisciplinary or cross-institutional, collaborative research projects that are translational in nature are also strongly encouraged.

Resubmission applications will also be accepted from investigators who applied to a previous cycle of the program but did not receive funding.
