Marc Siegel, MD, and Hilary Wolf, MD, have received an NIH CFAR Administrative Supplement entitled, "The Effect of Social Media Support and Financial Incentives on Adherence to PrEP" to study whether the use of financial incentives or support using texting and social media applications can increase the uptake of and adherence to pre-exposure prohylaxis (PrEP) to prevent HIV infection in young men of color who have sex with men (MSM).

The specific aims are 1) to determine the effect of periodic financial incentives and 2) to determine the effect of texting/social media-based support compared to standard PrEP prescribing on adherence to PrEP for young MSM of color (age 18-24) in Washington, DC. To accomplish these aims, Drs. Siegel and Wolf plan to use databases of young MSM from previous studies (CFAR Supplemental Grant 1P30AI117970-01) and community partnerships with healthcare clinics that cater to the young MSM population to recruit 120 young (age 16-25) MSM of color.
