The DC D-CFAR would like to congratulate Ivan Tong Mak, PhD for his new NIH award, "HAART-Mediated Cardiovascular Toxicity in HIV-1 Transgenic Rats: Mg Protection."
Dr. Mak and his collaborators plan to utilize HIV-1 transgenic rats to determine if HAART combination treatment further promotes systemic oxidative or nitrosative stress, hyperlimidemia and cardiac pathology dysfunction and if Mg-supplementation attenuates HAART-mediated systemic inflamation, pathology and cardiac dysfunction.
