Current HIV/AIDS Research Activities:
- Identify and compare Mycobacterium tuberculosis strain types that are more commonly found in HIV-infected individuals.
- Compare fitness among clinical Mycobacterium tuberculosis isolates.
- Identify and characterize Mycobacterium tuberculosis virulence factors.
Current HIV/AIDS Educational Activities:
- Collaborative research with graduate students and the Department of Health and Mental Hygiene in Baltimore, MD on HIV/TB co-infection.
- Teach a Clinical Microbiology I course to MLS students. The course includes pathogenesis, epidemiology, diagnosis and treatment of bacteria and viruses, including HIV.
- Teach a Molecular Diagnostics course in the CLS program that includes applications of molecular technology to diagnose various diseases, including HIV.
