DC CFAR investigator and pilot award recipient, Dr. Sarah Calabrese (GW) and colleagues published an article in AIDS Patient Care and STDs March 2020 entitled "Contraception as a Potential Gateway to Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis: US Women's Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis Modality Preferences Align with Their Birth Control Practices".

The study looked at women's preferences across 10 different PrEP modalities including daily pills, injections and invisible implants using an online survey. The authors highlighted the importance of diversifying available PrEP modalities and prioritizing those that coincide with contraception practices.
