J’Mia Edwards currently works as a Treatment Navigator for the Colorectal Department and also as a Peer Mentor for the WISH study both at MedStar Washington Hospital Center. J’Mia moved to the DC area in 2005 after begin incarcerated briefly. She is a community activist that advocates for several issues facing marginalized communities. Ms. Edwards shares her livid experiences of Domestic Violence, Homelessness, Sexual abuse, HIV and Mental Health with others in the hopes of demonstrating how you can overcome your situation and barriers. Ms. Edwards is a member of The Speaker’s Bureau with Community Family Life Services in Washington DC, which also gives J’Mia the platform to share her story reaching audiences all over. She has worked with numerous non-profit organizations in the area, she also was featured in the movie “The Other City” in 2010, which followed her while she attempted, finding adequate housing for herself and
kids while navigating different systems and her health diagnoses of HIV. She is most passionate about correcting the health disparities in her community. Ms. Edwards is originally from Charlotte NC and the proud mother of four.
