On September 13, the DC CFAR kicked-off its Year 2 City-Wide Seminar Series with a talk entitled, "HIV Today: What are the Big Unanswered Questions?" by Dr. Jonathan Mermin, the Director of the CDC National Center for HIV/AIDS, Viral Hepatitis, STD, and TB Prevention.

Dr. Mermin's presentation addressed the overarching questions still facing HIV researchers and advocates today, including:
  • What is the best use of resources to reduce HIV incidence?
  • What are the scientific breakthroughs that will make the healthy choice the easy choice?
  • What is the new generation of risk messaging? and,
  • Can we implement truly routine HIV screening?
When addressing each question, Dr. Mermin highlighted current CDC intervention and surveillance strategies and research initiatives, as well as the work still to be done by researchers, policy makers and advocates.

Thank you to all of the DC CFAR members who attended this seminar!
