Current HIV/AIDS-Related Research Activities:

  • Studied a variety of signaling events including activation of the transcription factors in multiple cell types that are affected by HIV-1 or normal immunologic processes.
  • Used various mouse models of HIV infection, including humanized mice and mice infected with EcoHIV to show that the effector molecules released by HIV-1 infected cells and the metabolic products of cells have an ability to alter the biology of platelets, monocytes, and other cell types like neurons by influencing specific components of cellular signaling events.
  • Experienced in translational research and in the development of novel therapeutics.
  • Studied the potential relationship between HIV infection and platelets/monocytes activation in context to HIV-associated neurocognitive disorders (HAND), aging, thrombosis, and atherosclerosis.
